frequently asked questions
What do I wear when I practice yoga?
Bare feet are best! Bare feet allow you to connect with your mat, stop you from slipping and improve your range of motion while you move into each pose. Wear comfortable clothes that give you complete freedom to move your body. Slightly form fitting tops work best because your head will be below your hips and a form fitting shirt will stay in place. Most exercise clothes are fine to wear during yoga.
What do I need to bring?
If you have a yoga mat, bring it! If you do not have one you may rent one for $1.00. Please wipe down borrowed mats with our all natural spray cleaner after use.
Can I eat before I practice yoga?
It is best to eat 2 hours before a yoga class. It is difficult to do yoga poses when your belly is full of food! We enjoy eating a snack or meal after practising yoga.
What about water/drinks?
Water, water everywhere. We are 80% water and need to stay hydrated. Drink plenty of water before practising and even more after a practice (especially a hot yoga class where you really sweat out toxins!) . We will provide filtered, ph balance water for you, for free! Please bring your own reusable drink container. We do not provide plastic bottles or cups because they are very unhealthy for you and our home, this great planet!
What is the best Yoga class for me?
There is a type of yoga for EVERY body and spirit. Every body is different and so is every yoga class. Please try a variety of classes and styles and try to go to different teachers. There are many teachers available to you and each will have something new to offer. Keep going to class and discover which one you love best. Love It Yoga!
How many times a week should I attend classes?
Practising two times a week is beneficial to you. Every other day is awesome and you will start to notice the wonderful benefits of yoga. As Pattabhi Jois says, “Yoga is 99% practice 1% theory.” Sooooo, come to class as much as you are able. Once you are familiar with the practice and poses you will be able to do some poses on your own whenever you need to.
What goes on in a yoga class anyway?
Please try to arrive at least 10 minutes before class to get situated, use the washroom, and begin to quiet your mind. Please enter through the side orange door and remove your shoes. There are shoe racks available and cubbies in the change rooms. This will help to keep the studio clean and neat. Please keep voices low and remember to turn your cell phone to silent or even OFF! Your yoga practice is a break from your busy life. It gives your body and mind time to rejuvenate and better prepares you to continue your schedule, managing stressors in a positive and relaxed way.
Take a deep breath and enter the studio.
How a class begins will be up to the teacher, however, yoga classes always end in savasana (corpse pose): laying down on your back to enjoy and absorb the hard work you just did. Savasana is a time to close your eyes and reconnect with yourself. Please take this time for yourself, YOU deserve it! If you must leave a class early, please inform the instructor and take a few minutes to rest before you leave. Please roll your mat up and exit as quiet as a mouse!
What are adjustments?
Adjustments are INCREDIBLE! Adjustments may be a verbal cue to help you move you into a pose more deeply and safely. For example, “Relax your neck, let your head dangle like an apple from the tree.” Adjustments may be a helping hand from the teacher: applying gentle pressure to an area of tension, guiding a limb into a straighter energy line. This will help you relax and enjoy your practice. Please take the time to inform your teacher of any areas of tension or pain in your body.
How do I pay for classes?
There are many options available to you. You can join the studio or pay per class. We accept Visa, Mastercard, and Debit for all classes, memberships and merchandise. We also accept cash or cheque. Please contact Jennifer or Ena at the studio to discuss the best option for you.
